For me, the smell and taste of baked beans takes me back to my childhood. The aroma instantly transports me back to summers of my youth; picnics in the park with family and friends. Several families, about 20 of us in all, got to a State Park for a picnic. We’d play baseball or basketball, then sit down to lunch. Hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, cole slaw, macaroni salad, and baked beans. Really nice memories.
Today, I usually eat my black beans straight from the can as Jane is not crazy about the smell — there are several vegetarian baked bean varieties in stores. I likely wouldn’t be able to make these myself (due to the smell) or get her to make them for me, same reason. Regardless, they sure look tasty, don’t they?
