Even my dairy consuming husband loves silk chocolate soymilk...in fact, I don't think I've come across anyone who doesn't. My husband says it tastes like yohoo.

Hi QuarryGirl,
Glad you enjoyed the post. I'm glad you're happy with the products you've found. I understand the Silk Very Vanilla is supposed to be amazing, however, I haven't seen the product anywhere, so I haven't been able to try it.

Hi Emily,
We missed the recall. That's unfortunate. I poked around a bit to find out more about what happened. I didn't find an answer, but did find this speculation:
"They might not own their own equipment. So when Silk is not running their soy milk through the machine some other company that is dairy runs through the machine."
on the <a href="http://www.chowhound.com/topics/459555
">chowhound kosher board</a>.
I would guess that "other company" is likely to be their dairy product and someone didn't follow proper cleaning protocols.
The more I read about what these giant companies do to "produce" our food, the more I think we should eat nothing but whole foods. I'm not going to do that, but sometimes I'm tempted.

I understand that completely.
It's just that your money goes to a company that primarily gets their income from diary, but, I suppose it does show them the market/demand for soy milk if you purchase it from them.
My main concern was that a few months back milk was found in containers of Silk chocolate soy milk... the thought of cross-contamination, yuck!

Hi Sat,
Yes, we liked the idea of the recyclable container. Perhaps that is something I'll add to the letter I'll be dashing off to Silk after Emily's comment.

Hi Emily,
Wow, we had no idea that Silk is owned by a dairy company. That won't stop us from purchasing the product however. We believe in supporting vegan options so they'll become more mainstream... It's the same reason we'll buy vegan foods at non-vegan establishments. The more vegan products that are purchased, the more vegan products will become available.... However, I will be writing an email to Silk to extol them to move away from dairy for to ethical reasons.

My favorite personally is chocolate almond breeze - try it! i've never liked soy milk since i went to rice and almond milks, it has a strange taste. but that taste is usually covered up in the chocolate flavored anyway.
Also, I do not buy Silk products because they're owned by a dairy company unless I have absolutely no alternatives.

I haven't hard choco soy milk in a long time but I guess the price thing is just the opposite as for regular soy milk: 1/2 gal of the 365 is about $2.99 while the Silk is closer to $4. I haven't done a side-by-side taste test but the 365 brand tastes good to me. I also like the fact that the 365 comes in a recyclable container.
