Thanks Daniel,
It's not that we really eat this stuff anyway. But wow it can be confusing. On our Vegan Resources Page, we have a link to PETAs "I Can't Believe It's Vegan" reference in which they show that some Oreos are indeed vegan. It's by no means a comprehensive list, but...

Actually, Oreos are a bit interesting. The standard, run-of-the-mill Oreos actually have whey in them, not exactly a vegan-friendly ingredient.

However, the standard Double Stufs as well as most of the seasonal varieties lack the whey and seem to be mostly alright, refined sugars aside.

(Shrugs) Just for reference.

I think Jane bought the Tofurky just because it was there. One of our Trader Joe's still has a few in stock from Christmas (exp. dates in March).
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, so this was a nice mini version.
How'd the homemade sushi go? Jane's a little leery of trying those recipes. We both really enjoyed the real thing in our pre-vegan days, so it might be a little difficult to have a vegan version without pining for the non-vegan variety.

Nice - Tofurky. We only splurge on one at Christmas.
We are celebrating tonight with homemade sushi.
Vegan ingredients only - like natto!

Thanks for the clarification Vegyogini. I wish I could remember where I saw that comment so I could point them in the right direction (it was particularly virulent).
Yes, the meal was yummy indeed. I really love Thanksgiving! And best of all. Leftovers for dinner tonight or tomorrow. Woo Hoo!
Eggs: Jane isn't around right now. She's the keeper of the recipes. I know she's got apples in there, but that's about it. We're planning on putting in a few recipes starting in March. Maybe I can have her post about the cabbage sooner.

Looks like another delicious meal!

Do you have the recipe for the sweet and sour red cabbage? Sounds wonderful.

I now have rose envy too.

According to PETA, Oreos are vegan, so go for it! If the Trader Joe's Os aren't doing it for you every once in a while, that is. :) I'd rather avoid the HFCS and buy TJ's products anyway.

Hi Nash,
I believe they would be concerned about the refining of the sugar used in the cookie. ? I read someone's nasty comment about that on a message board somewhere.
Of course, I haven't had an Oreo in forever (we've been avoiding High Fructose Corn Syrup and Partially Hydrogenated anythings since 1999), so I don't exactly know what's in them anyway.

If someone pointed out that Oreos are not vegan they would be wrong. Healthy is a different story.
