Hi Hannah,

Absolutely agree about the brand formulas being critical. ie, we really love West Soy Plain Lo-Fat soy milk for our cereal. It has the consistency of skim milk, which is what we used before going vegan.

Wow, I guess I'm lucky; even before I was vegan I loved dairy alternatives. My favorite is Almond Dream. I always encourage folks who try plant milks and don't like them to try a different brand. It's amazing how the flavor and texture can vary from brand to brand.

I love almond milk in my morning smoothing. But Jane always things it tastes especially good in baked goods. We both really love the taste of almonds too.

I never really liked the taste of cow's milk.. and while I like soy milk better as a substitute, I was so excited to finally try almond milk after listening to colleen's podcast. I use it for my cereal and hot cocoa. It tastes great. I guess it helps that I like the almond flavor. I can't believe I didn't discover this a long time ago... I think these foods actually taste much better with almond milk than cow's milk. I used to not like to eat cereal because I thought cow's milk tasted disgusting and I wasn't that enthused with using soy milk for my cereal either, but almond milk actually makes it taste really good.

Hi Jill,
Honestly, I can't say that I've grown to love the taste of soy milk, the exception being the Silk Light Chocolate Soy milk, which I often have as "dessert."
Thanks for the link.

Hi Becky,
Actually, I just read that Silk has come out with a line of coconut milk products. I'm pretty excited about that. I really like the So Delicious coconut milk based yogurts. We haven't found it in any of our local grocers yet, but when we do, we're going to buy it immediately.

Hi Kevin,
Haven't gotten there yet. But we try to skip the Tofutti sour cream since it's full of partially hydrogenated oils. For most recipes that call for sour cream, Jane just subs in a little non-hydrogenated cream cheese.

I've recently become vegan, and although I used to hate soy milk, I've grown to really like it. Here's some dessert recipes with soy milk and soy yogurt - the first recipe isn't vegan but the last two are! http://www.bettyconfidential.com/ar/ld/a/Dessert_Recipes_by_celebrity_chefs.html

Milk was the last thing I gave up when I was transitioning from being a vegetarian to a vegan. As I was drinking it one day, I suddenly realized that I didn't even like it. I drank it only out of habit. So I understand where you're coming from!
